10-year-old Mermaid girl dies in Maine

The 10-year-old Maine "mermaid girl" dies at the Maine Medical Center on Friday after a cold quickly turned to pneumonia.
The little 10-year-old girl who had become a an Internet darling on Facebook from Maine died on Friday according to an Associated Press story.
Shiloh Pepin, who was born with “mermaid syndrome” a very rare condition where the legs are fused together passed at the Maine Medical Center Friday afternoon. She had been in the hospital for a week in critical condition.
The condition known as sirenomelia, means that she had only a partially working kidney, no lower colon, genital organs, and legs fused from the waist down.
Shiloh could not have her legs separated because she lacked enough blood vessels in her circulatory system. She had already received two kidney transplants.
She was recently featured on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”
On the 10th of October she was rushed to the hospital when a cold quickly turned into pneumonia where she was placed on antibiotics and a ventilator.
