article imageGiants Look to Rebound Against Resurgent Cardinals

By B. Thomas Cooper     Oct 22, 2009 in Sports
The irrepressible Eli Manning and his fellow New York Giants have something to prove this weekend against the Arizona Cardinals, following their disappointing loss last weekend to the powerhouse New Orleans Saints.
The Giants, (5-1) are considered by many to be the premiere team in the NFL, but a loss to the Cardinals could quickly change all that. Until last week, Eli Manning appeared unstoppable. That was before the Giants were crushed 48-27 by the undefeated Saints.
The Cardinals (3-2) are coming off a big win at home, and need a victory against the Giants to put them in better position for the playoffs. Arizona quarterback, Kurt Warner is cautious, but optimistic. “They’re very aggressive” states Warner pensively, adding “they’re very good up front and opportunistic. They’ve got a lot of playmakers”.
Still, the Arizona Cardinals have good reason to believe they can be successful against the mighty Giants. Arizona has won their first two road games of the season for the first time in eighteen years, in large part, due to their top-ranked defense which leads the league in rushing.
The Cardinals will need to be more effective on offense, however, or the wily Giants will capitalize early and often. "The Giants, make no mistake about it, are a good football team," said Ken Whisenhunt, head coach for the Arizona Cardinals. "We know that from playing them last year." For those who perhaps don’t remember the results last year, well lets just say it wasn’t pretty. New York defeated Arizona 37-29 in Arizona.
The Giants went on to lose to the Philadelphia Eagles 23-11, ending their playoff hopes. The Arizona Cardinals went on win the NFC title, but ultimately lost the Super Bowl, by the slim margin, 27-23 to the champion Pittsburgh Steelers.
