A new survey in Brunei suggests that the majority of Bruneians want husbands who cheat on their wives to be whipped. But also a majority of respondents feel cheating wives should receive the same punishment.
The nation of Brunei, an oil-rich state, is off the Coast of Borneo Island and has a population of 400,000, 66 per cent of which are Muslims. So it may be stunning to some to see a new online survey, conducted by BruDirect, showing that 76 per cent of respondents want to see men whipped if they cheat on their significant other, reports 24 Hours Vancouver.
However, 55 per cent of respondents also feel that women should receive the same demise if they cheat on their husbands.
A social worker stated on the website, according to Reuters, “The result of the survey is an indication of the pent-up feelings that women harbor against irresponsible men.”
A lawyer who specializes in Muslim divorce cases said, “Physical abuse and cases of neglect against wives are on the increase. Many wives have approached us to file cases but many withdraw their complaints after the initial feeling of hurt subsided."
The online survey was conducted among 272 respondents and it was conducted between August 28 and October 20 but did not specify the gender of the votes.
