An Indianapolis cash advance store robber was so overcome with guilt during a robbery that he dropped to his knees in tears and prayed for the teller's forgiveness.
CCTV footage at an Advance America branch in Indianapolis last week, has captured images of an unusual robbery where the robber points a gun at a tellers head and demands cash.
Not so unusual, but when the teller, Angela Montez, bravely began to talk to the man about God, he dropped to his knees overwhelmed with guilt and prayed for forgiveness.
According to
Associated Press, the man spent approximately 10 minutes on his knees praying with the teller who at one point reached over and hugged her assailant.
Eventually, the man lays down a bullet in front of Montez to convince her that he did not mean to hurt her, and explains that he had a two-year-old child to support. He appealed to Ms. Montez to pray for him to be able to overcome his hardships.
The man then ordered Montez to stay in a nearby washroom. While she was away he stole her cell phone and $20 from the cash drawer before he left.
Security video clearly showed the man's face during the incident on Monday, and a young man turned himself in to police the next day, reports the
Daily Mail.
The alleged robber, Gregory Smith, 23, has been charged with robbery, pointing a firearm and having a handgun without a licence.
