Hannaford Supermarkets has taken the precaution of removing Taste of Inspirations Vegetable Spring Rolls from its freezer cases because the rolls may contain shrimp.
The press release from Hannaford says the company has taken the precaution of removing the affected products from their shelves as one ingredient-- shrimp -- is not listed on the packaging.
So far , there have been no illnesses reported. Anyone who has an allergy or sensitivity to shellfish could be at risk serious or experience life-threatening reaction if they consume a product that includes shrimp.
Two customer reports in Maine and two customer reports in Florida stating the spring rolls contained shrimp were the impetus for this action.
The product also is sold at Sweetbay Supermarket in Florida, which also has removed Taste of Inspirations Vegetable Spring Rolls as a precaution.
The manufacturer, Original Rangoon of Massachusetts, is in the process of reporting the matter to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as the investigation continues.
Hannaford Supermarkets, based in Scarborough, Maine, operates 171 stores and employs 27,000 associates in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont.
