When it's time for the safety speech on Delta Airlines flights that flight attendant Robin Schmidt is on the passengers are asked for a little extra.
Schmidt asks passengers to help fill in a journal that will be sent to one of the troops stations in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Passengers have been filling in Schmidt's journals since 2002. When a journal has been filled out with notes of encouragement it is packed with a care package for a soldier serving in the war zones.
The soldiers who have received one of the journals cherish the notes within during the hard days.
reports on one of those soldiers, Army National Guard Sgt. Tim Gallagher:
"The morale of soldiers can be made or broken from the amount of mail they do or do not receive," said Gallagher, who is stationed in Kandahar, Afghanistan. "What Robin has done for me is kept my spirits high and me constantly guessing and laughing."
Schmidt has added to the journals since last year. She has teamed up with Taylor Mill Elementary School, letters from the students are now going to patients that are in overseas military hospitals.
