Jasper Howard, a U Conn cornerback, was stabbed on Sunday morning after 12:30 a.m. on Hillside Road near the center of campus. U Conn officials are holding a press conference that began at 2:30 p.m. today to discuss the incident.
The U Conn football team defeated Louisville 38-25 at Rentschler Field in East Hartford yesterday. A joyous evening turned into tragedy for the U Conn community when cornerback Jasper Howard was stabbed numerous times by an unknown assailant on campus early this morning after a student dance.
According to the
Hartford Courant,
''State Police major crime unit and UConn police say the stabbing happened just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday on Hillside Road near the center of campus.''
The stabbing occurred when a school sponsored dance was being let out just around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Two people were subsequently stabbed and their bodies were found near each other on Hillside Road. They were taken to Windham Community Memorial Hospital by UConn ambulances.
Howard was then airlifted by LifeStar to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford where he died. The second victim was treated and released from the hospital but the police report doesn't say which hospital or if the person was male or female.
Someone pulled a fire alarm at 12:26 a.m. when the students were leaving the dance. A fight erupted between two groups of people outside the building and then the two people were stabbed. As of this writing, the perpetrator of the stabbing is still at large.
Howard had 11 tackles, forced a fumble and recovered it in the third quarter of UConn's victory over Louisville.
Jasper Howard attended Miami Edison High School and he often talked about how his mother Joangila worked many jobs to support him and his sisters. He also said that his sister Jasmine has meningitis. He was the first in his family to go to college and he dreamed of becoming a professional football player to financially help out his family.
