article imageMancow Congratulates the Late Sen. Kennedy on His Sobriety

By R. Francis Rubio     Oct 13, 2009 in Entertainment
Radio and television personality Erich "Mancow" Muller posts a message on twitter to the late Senator Ted Kennedy congratulating him for "being six weeks sober."
Erich Muller, better known as "Mancow" posted "CONGRATULATIONS TO TED KENNEDY FOR BEING SIX WEEKS SOBER" on his twitter page Monday shortly after posting other such comedic gems as "GIVING OBAMA THE NOBEL PIECE OF CRAP AWARD WOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT LIKE AWARDING TED KENNEDY AN OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL FOR SWIMMING" and "Worse yet Mary-Joe Kopechne gets the silver.....apparently Teddy forgot it was a relay race."
Now any regular twitter user knows how the site works, usually someone posts a comment and waits for a response. So it's likely with the absence of any @ signs on his profile page surrounding these comments Mr. Muller was not responding to any specific individual but rather speaking to all of his followers in general.
Erich "Mancow" Muller is a television and radio personality best known for his Chicago-based radio show Mancow's Morning Madhouse.
You may remember Mr. Muller from his well publicized waterboarding back in May of 2009, when he decided to tackle the issue of torture head on by allowing himself to be waterboarded live on his radio show. Mancow said to his listeners that morning "I want to find out if it's torture" and shortly after his 6 to 7 second ordeal he said "It is way worse than I thought it would be, and that's no joke" before finally admitting "It is such an odd feeling to have water poured down your nose with your head back...It was instantaneous...and I don't want to say this: absolutely torture."
The question is, did Mullen cross any line with his twitter comments about the late Senator Kennedy or does free speech trump any moral or professional ethics in the court of public opinion?
