Marie-Hélène Marcaud and Patrice Landry, two nature enthusiasts, discovered footprints from sauropod dinosaurs in Plagne, France.
Jean-Michel Mazin and Pierre Hantzpergue, both of the Paléoenvironnements et Paléobiosphères laboratory have authenticated the find.
The tracks, according to the press release, are spread over dozens of meters, possibly more.
Along with other members of Société des naturalistes d'Oyonnax (SDNO), Marie-Hélène Marcaud, Patrice Landry have devoted years to looking for dinosaur footprints.
It was on April 5, 2009 that the pair found the Plagne footprints. Jean-Michel Mazin and Pierre Hantzpergue, of the Paléoenvironnements et Paléobiosphères laboratory were immediately contacted.
The two researchers authenticated the footprints and believe that the Plagne site was along a route used by sauropod dinosaurs.
Both for the size of the prints and the number of tracks which can be seen makes the site exceptional. It will be necessary to conduct further geological studies and digs in order to uncover more information.
