Madonna's charity will be getting a large chuck of money after the singer accepted damages from The Mail on Sunday over stolen wedding pictures.
Madonna had sought $8 million in damages against the Mail on Sunday's owners Associated Newspapers. The final settlement will remain undisclosed with the money going to Raising Malawi charity. The newspaper admitted to privacy and infringement of copyright concerning the photographs in a London court.
The pictures were bought by the newspaper after they had been copied by an interior designer working in the singer's Beverly Hills home. She is said to have given them to another woman. That person has been alleged to have sold the 27 photos from the December 2000 wedding album of Madonna and Guy Ritchie.
The newspaper paid $7,500 for the set reports People Magazine. The photos were used on October 19, 2008 the couple announcing their divorce.
Prior to the photo spread they had been private family photographs. Had Madonna wanted the photos in the public eye she would have sold them herself says her lawyer.
BBC reports that the photographs have since been destroyed by Associated Newspapers.
