Mistrial ends court case for Cameron John Brown for a second time

The trial of a man accused of killing his 4-year-old daughter because of child support payments has ended in a mistrial. The girl died after a fall in Rancho Palos Verdes, California in 2000.

The man, Cameron John Brown, had said that his daughter's death was an accident. The prosecution claimed that Brown killed the child because he had never wanted her. In 2006 a first trial had ended in a mistrial. According to the prosecutors Brown had urged the child's mother to get an abortion. When she, a British immigrant, refused he attempted to get her deported and fired from her job according to the LA Times. After a paternity test Brown was ordered to pay $1,000 a month in child support. Defense lawyer Pat Harris said that while in the beginning his client did not think the child was his when it was revealed that she was Brown embraced her. The lawyer went on to say that Brown had gone to court in an effort to have more time with the young girl. On November 8, 2000 the child fell from a 120-foot cliff at Inspiration Point in California. Brown said that his daughter had been throwing rocks when she slipped. There were no other witnesses to the girl's fall.
