On Fox News Sunday, two Republican Senators, South Carolina's Lindsey Graham and Georgia's Saxby Chambliss, believe that the United States, if necessary, should be the ones who attack Iran and not Israel.
Republican South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham and Georgian Senator Saxby Chambliss appeared on Fox News on Sunday to discuss the possibility of United States military action against Iran, according to the
Raw Story.
Graham feels that if Israel were to militarily attack Iran then it would cause major upheaval from Arab nations, which would, in the end, align themselves with Tehran. Nevertheless, Graham believes a simple airstrike is not enough because the US would have to bomb any chance of Iran defending back, “If we use military action against Iran, we should not only go after their nuclear facilities. We should destroy their ability to make conventional war. They should have no planes that can fly and no ships that can float.”
However, Graham did state that military action against Iran should be the last resort and would rather have the US and its allies attack Iran rather than going solo.
Chambliss agrees with Graham’s analysis of the situation. He provides his assessment by adding that if airstrike does occur it wouldn’t stop Iran from enriching the production of uranium. “Lindsey’s right. It’s an all or nothing deal. And is it worth that at this point in time, when we know they have the capability? We can slow them down, but a full-out military strike is what it would take.”
Also on Fox News Sunday, according to the
Politico, Democratic and Republican Senators concurred that stricter sanctions against Iran needs to persist. Pennsylvania Democratic Senator Bob Casey said that the world is on the path for a nuclear Iran, which is unacceptable, “We have to be very focused on giving the president and giving other parts of our government including pension funds the ability to impose sanctions… We should have all the tools on the table to impose sanctions even unilaterally if necessary.”
Indiana Democratic Senator Evan Bayh provided harsh criticism against the Iranian government by stating they have the power of deception and they consistently break agreements, “That’s why we need to tee up all these sanctions to raise the course of misbehavior. I think we need to give them a matter of weeks to come clean on the inspections. To actually send the uranium out of the country.”
