New polls for the 2010 Connecticut Republican Primary show a large number of Republican voters are still undecided for next year's Senate election. GOP candidates include Peter Schiff, Rob Simmons and Linda McMahon.
The Connecticut Senate Republican Primary is still several months away, however, polls show former Republican Congressman Rob Simmons with a strong lead over other candidates such as President of Euro Pacific Capital Peter Schiff, former President of World Wrestling Entertainment Linda McMahon and Connecticut State Senator Sam Caligiuri.
According to three polls conducted in September by
Quinnipiac University and
Daily Kos/Research 2000 at least 43 per cent of Republican respondents are undecided of who they would vote for in the 2010 Senate Republican Primary.
However, at least 38 per cent of respondents support former Representative Rob Simmons, while author of “Crash Proof 2.0” Peter Schiff only received one or two per cent and Sam Caligiuri is polling between 4 and 7 per cent.
The Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll further shows that if an election was held between Rob Simmons and Chris Dodd then Simmons would win with 46 per cent of the vote. But Simmons, according to the polls, seems to be the only Republican that can defeat current Democratic incumbent and former 2008 Presidential Candidate Chris Dodd at this point in time.
The same question was asked but with Peter Schiff, Sam Caligiuri and others. Chris Dodd would defeat Schiff with 47 per cent compared to Schiff’s 35 per cent, while Dodd would overwhelmingly beat Caligiuri with 46 per cent to 37 per cent.
A lot of the respondents, however, do not know much about the other Republican candidates such as Peter Schiff, Thomas Foley and Sam Caligiuri because at least 75 per cent of telephone respondents had no opinion of the candidates.
Since the beginning of 2009, Senator Chris Dodd’s approval ratings were on the
decline but a
Quinnipiac University poll released in mid-September, according to
The Hartford Courant, found that Dodd is gaining some momentum before next year’s election with 43 per cent Connecticut constituents approving of his job.
Connecticut’s Republican Primary election date will be on August 10, 2010 and nationwide midterm elections will be held on November 2, 2010.
