In an effort to protect U.S. computers, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is planning to hire 1,000 cybersecurity experts in the next three years.
Speaking at an event to commemorate National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said, "cybersecurity is one of our most urgent priorities". She also indicated that she is focused on making DHS a "world class cyberorganization".
From the beginning of his presidency, President Obama has said cybersecurity is a top priority.
The administration has not named anyone to head a cybersecurity department. According to Chris Painter, the White House National Security Staff's acting senior director for cybersecurity, the President is committed to finding someone to fill the position.
