fizwoz today launched as a beta product, and allows users to sell their images to the media using an auction system, similar to that of eBay.
An online market place for media, the site hopes to provide monetary compensation to users who happen to be at the scene of an incident and take photos on their mobile phones.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for citizen journalists to earn anything from bragging rights to substantial sums of cash,"
said Andy Sheldon founder/CEO of fizwoz.
"By pointing and shooting a chance encounter with a celebrity to offering reasonably priced editorial photography, everyone with a smart phone could be using their device to capture a video or photographic treasure and putting it in front of buyers and journalists around the globe within seconds."
The site functions on an auction system, and allows the media to place bids on the rights to an image. There is the option to buy the image outright, but this comes at a much higher price.
Media outlets such as CNN have been helping test out the site, and today the company announced applications for smartphones including the iPhone, and others running the Blackberry and Windows Mobile 6.0 OS.
