Burkie's Dog House a Hit on Night Of Season Opener Special

Whether it's peanuts at the ballpark, or tailgate barbecue before an NFL game, food and sports seem to go hand and hand. And now hockey fans, more specifically Leaf fans, have a food they can call their own -- the Burkie Dog.

Burkie's Dog House is a hot dog concession stand at the Air Canada Centre named after Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke where fans can purchase anything from a "Poutine Dog" to a "Pizza Pizza Dog" or just a regular hot dog. The name of the restaurant is essentially a pun for players that can enter the general manager's dog house when they play poorly. Some may feel certain Leaf fans already belong in Burke's dog house after their performance in the season opener last night against the Montreal Canadiens but that's a story for another day. Burkie's Dog House has been in all forms of the Toronto media over the past couple of weeks including Brian Burke himself enjoying one of his savoury creations. And clearly fans have already caught on to the new food addition to the ACC, before puck drop in last nights season opener fans lined up for as long as 20 minutes just for a hot dog. Other hot dog options include: Chicken Hot Dog – caramelized onions, mushrooms and roasted garlic aioli Southern BBQ Dog- smoky BBQ pulled pork and creamy coleslaw Footlong Hot Dog – with honey mustard sautéed onions Maple Hot Dog – hot dog simmered in maple syrup , topped with French baked beans Reuben Hot Dog – sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and Thousand island dressing Bacon Wrapped Hot Dog – maple mustard sautéed onions and cheddar cheese Lettuce Veggie Dog – chopped tomatoes and spring onions Kobe Dog – wasabi mayonnaise and pickled ginger Pee Wee Dog – a classic sized hot dog Hopefully Burkie's Dog House will be kept as a place just for hot dogs and not Maple Leaf players.
