There were people with blue painted hair, there were blow up dolls, Maple Leafs tattoos and even a hockey rink, all in the midst of Toronto's Yonge and Dundas Square.
All of it to hype up the Toronto Maple Leafs season opener tonight at the Air Canada Centre against the Montreal Canadiens.
After a long and eventful off season for The Maple Leafs what better way to hype up the upcoming season then to turn Toronto's downtown "hot spot" into a place for all Maple Leaf fans to come together and appreciate not only our home team but the national pastime of hockey.
Boards, plexiglass and yes even ice (well synthetic ice) was set up right outside the Eaton Centre and Toronto Maple Leafs Alumni strapped on their skates while others gathered around the outside of the boards to watch Smirnoff's version of an outdoor game.
Not only did Smirnoff put on the outdoor game but they also let Leaf fans show off their skills in a skills competition for a chance to win tickets to tonight's game.
Other festivities included a Maple Leafs truck, which had fans lined up to walk inside and look at a replicated condensed version of their home team's dressing room and AM 640 (Toronto Radio Station) setting up shop at to host their daily "Leafs Lunch" radio program.
All in all a fun fan orientated day to get the Leafs season in stride. The only thing missing was a GO LEAFS GO chant.
