New Blackberry app brings TiVo controls to your smartphone

RIM has announced a new application for their Blackberry smartphone that works in conjunction with TiVo television devices.

Promised a year ago but going under the radar for twelve months, the app, now available from the Blackberry App World, allows users to record television shows from their smartphones, as well as search recorded programs. Tivo DVR Scheduler also allows you to add reminders for TV shows to your calendar, and will work on any Blackberry that has a web browser and Blackberry OS 4.2.0 and allows you to connect to any TiVo device from Series 2 onwards. Vikram from RIM said:

Ever find yourself in a situation when you're chatting with a few friends at a bar and someone recommends a new show to check out on TV?...Situations like this can now have a happy ending thanks to TiVo for BlackBerry smartphones.

It should be noted this app doesn't allow users to watch any shows on their smartphones. It lets users view the program guide and schedule shows to be recorded.
