Apple has released some interesting statistics today for its iPhone App Store, showing that downloads of apps have passed the 2 billion mark, and that there are now more than 85,000 apps available.
The company says unsurprisingly that there are now more than 50 million iPod Touch and iPhone users around the world, and that there are over 125,000 developers enrolled in the iPhone Developers program and creating apps.
“The rate of App Store downloads continues to accelerate with users downloading a staggering two billion apps in just over a year, including more than half a billion apps this quarter alone,”
said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.
“The App Store has reinvented what you can do with a mobile hand-held device, and our users are clearly loving it.”
The amount of downloads from the store has doubled since the 23rd of April this year, when the one billion downloads mark was reached. Not long after the 1.5 billion mark was reached in July, and the pace just keeps growing as more users purchase iPhones and iPod Touches.
