Former Democratic United States President Bill Clinton said in an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press" that the Democrats will not suffer in the 2010 elections as the 1994 elections.
On Sunday, former President Bill Clinton spoke to NBC’s “Meet the Press” believes the Democratic Party will not experience huge losses in 2010, according to the Associated Press, as they did in the 1994 elections, which saw the Republican Party win a majority in the House of Representatives and the Democrats lose control of the House for the first time in 40 years.
Many Republicans, such as Florida Governor Charlie Crist and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, are making the notion that the Republicans will have sweeping wins across the country and regain control of the Congress.
“It’s just wishful thinking,” Clinton said. Nevertheless, he believes that the losses that do occur to the Democrats are “manageable,” because the nation is more diverse and positive. The former President went on to state that the right-wing is weaker than in 1994.
Many political experts, according Reuters, believe the Democrats will experience double-digit losses, but won't lose the 40 seats needed for the Republicans to regain control.
David Gregory, host of “Meet the Press,” asked Clinton if the American people are going to pay higher taxes for President Barack Obama’s health care reform and he responded, reports Politico, “Well, I think he's made it clear that it costs some money to insure more people, … and I have no criticism of what he's done. He's been at a terrible disadvantage in the law-making phase.”
Asking if his wife, Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton will run for President again in 2016, the two-term President laughingly replied, “That's up to her. I do-- you know, we're not getting any younger.”
