Wondering what's up with Google's logo today? Its the search giant's 11th birthday, but unlike last year no competition is being held.
People using Google to search today will most likely notice that two 1's have replaced the l in the companies name, making it read as "Goog11e".
Controversy surrounds what day Google thinks of as being its birthday, and it appears even those inside the organisation are unsure although recently there seems to be a move towards the 27th of September. The domain name google.com was registered on September 15, 1997, but the company was incorporated on September the 7th, 1998.
Either way, Google used to, in typical fashion as
Mashable points out, make a joke about what day they celebrate their birthday, saying:
“Google opened its doors in September 1998. The exact date when we celebrate our birthday has moved around over the years, depending on when people feel like having cake.”
Happy 11th birthday Google!
