Fifty-seven lots of children's and infants liquid Tylenol products are being voluntarily recalled in the USA by Johnson and Johnson's McNeil unit after concerns about possible bacterial contamination.
Almost two dozen varieties are included in the recall some of them being Children's Tylenol Plus Cold/Allergy 4oz. Bubble Gum, Children's Tylenol Suspension 4oz. Grape and Infants Tylenol Grape Suspension Drop 1/4oz. These products were made during April and June.
AP reports that late on Thursday Johnson and Johnson said they had contacted retailers and wholesalers about the recall. The company said that there was an inactive ingredient which didn't meet the testing requirements and that B. cepacia bacteria were found in a portion of raw material that was not used in the finished product.
There were no bacteria found in the finished product, the company said, and that there was little to no chance of there being a serious medical issue but that they had decided to recall the product after consultation with the Food and Drug Administration.
The company said, "It was decided, as a precaution, to recall all product that utilized any of the raw material manufactured at the same time as the raw material that tested positive for the bacteria."
A full list of the products recalled and their lot numbers can be found on
Tylenol's web site.
The lot numbers can be found on the sticker that surrounds the product bottle and on the base of the product box.
