It doesn't look like Colonel Gadaffi will be "kissing the cod" during his one day stopover in Newfoundland, Canada but he may get "screeched" at.
Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon will be on-hand in St. John's, Newfoundland to meet Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi while the dictator is on a one-day stopover in the province, says a
press release from Prime Minister Stephen Harper's office.
Gaddafi is on his way back to Libya from New York where he spoke at the United Nations General Assembly.
The Newfoundland stopover is not an official visit to Canada.
"Minister Cannon will voice Canada's strong disapproval over the hero’s welcome organised for Abdelbasset Al Maghrahi, the man responsible for the Lockerbie terrorist bombing," which was an insult to all the victims who died including Canadians said the release.
Three Canadians were on board the doomed plane.
It is unclear whether Gaddafi will agree to the meeting, says
CTV News.
According to CTV National News, Gaddafi tried to book 120 rooms for his entourage but was unsuccessful and is now attempting to rent a mansion in the area.
Gaddafi gave his first-ever speech to the UN since he took power 40 years ago, reports
The National Post.
His 96-minute speech saw him "complain about the effects of jet lag, and charge that a 'military lab' had developed the 'swine' flu virus," they said.
