That was my second thought after watching Streetballers, the new film written, directed, produced and starring Krentz as John Hogan, a white, Irish, junior college basketball player looking for opportunity, survival and someone with whom he can take long, thoughtful walks.
AUDIO EXCERPT: “I didn’t go to film school… I didn’t purchase (film) books because I didn’t have any money. I used local bookstores as a library… I moved to Utah. Later I was invited to work at the filmmaker labs at the Robert Redford Resort. They wouldn’t let me on set because I had no background. So I applied as a driver. From a driver, I became an intern. Five years later they offered me the art director of the Institute. I literally was a fly on the wall at every opportunity. I spent a lot of time listening to a lot of talented filmmakers… It’s an underdog story from beginning to end.”
My first thought after finishing Streetballers was “Wow. I want everybody to see this movie.”
Joining me today is Matthew Krentz and his co-producer, Craig Thomas.
