Senior citizen Bud Grose was chased and tasered -- five different times -- by two Wyoming police officers on August 1. The investigation has just concluded with the firing of the two officers.
The small town of
Glenrock, Wyoming was shocked and horrified after one of its residents was chased and tasered by police during an annual celebration of community arts and life this past summer. It was nearing the end of the Deer Creek Days annual parade held on Aug. 1 when two officers
chased and tasered senior citizen, Bud Grose. Grose was driving an antique tractor in the parade, when one of the officers, Michael Kavenius, issued Grose with an order.
When Grose did not comply, there was a short chase by the officers and Grose was subsequently tasered five times by Kavenius. The other officer on duty, Paul Brown, had also engaged in the chase. At the time, the incident
angered the residents of the town, which has a population of 2,400.
Grose told the
Associated Press he was happy with the outcome.
"Hopefully this will kind of help bring the community together and be an answer to a lot of questions and problems."
The two officers had been put on a paid leave pending the investigation outcome. Shortly after the incident, there was a town hall meeting where police Chief Tom Sweet
admitted that the officers "probably didn't do things the best way."
At that meeting, the Mayor apologized to the town's residents for the incident, while residents called for the officers to be fired. Said resident Scott McWilliams, who had witnessed the attack:
"Those two were the most out-of-control officers I've ever seen in my life. These two guys got to go."
No charges were laid against Grose at the time, nor were charges laid against the officers. The town hired a Cheynne-based company,
S.J. Miller Associates to conduct an investigation. The police department
said Tuesday:
"After considering all aspects of the unfortunate event which occurred after the parade during Deer Creek Days this year, the decision has appropriately been made that the two Glenrock police officers involved are relieved from duty."
The lawyer for Kavenius and Brown was not responding to media requests for a comment.
