The 7’0 Nikolai Valuev, the current World Boxing Association heavyweight word champion, is set to defend his title against the Briton heavyweight contender David Haye this coming November 7 at the Arena Nurnberger Versicherung, in Nuremberg, Germany.
Ahead of their meeting on November 7, both Nikolai Valuev and David Haye met for the first time at their first pre-fight press conference held today at the Arena Nurnberger Versicherung. David Haye, 22-1, 20 KO's, a former undisputed world cruiserweight champion, who pulled out of his title fight against the IBF/WBO/IBO and Ring Magazine heavyweight titles holder Wladimir Klitschko and also, was supposed to meet Vitali Klitschko, the current WBC heavyweight world champion, but the scheduled bout didn’t take place, told the international media representatives that, thanks to his speed, he will take Valuev’s title with him.
David Haye also admitted that the preparation for what he calls a true David-versus-Goliath battle will be a difficult one due to the fact that it is hard to find sparring partners that are as tall as the 7’0 Valuev. Still, David Haye believes he can knock the Nikolai Valuev out.
Nikolai Valuev, 50-1, 34 KO’s, the first ever Russian professional boxer to win a world heavyweight title, however, stated that, even though he has not fought for quite a while, he has been in training ever since and in the past weeks he has been preparing specially for David Haye. For Nikolai Valuev, David Haye is a strong challenger but he will not beat him.
In 2005, Nikolai Valuev captured the WBA heavyweight title for the first time from 2-time heavyweight world champion John Ruiz via a 12-round majority decision.
On May 30, 2009, Nikolai Valuev, was supposed to square off with the Uzbekistan WBA heavyweight “champion in recess” Ruslan Chagaev in Helsinki in rematch of their April 14, 2007, title fight, which Chagaev won, but according to the Finnish boxing federation, Ruslan Chagaev failed to fulfil the medical requirements and for that, the bout was cancelled.
In 2005, Nikolai Valuev captured the WBA heavyweight title for the first time from 2-time heavyweight world champion John Ruiz via a 12-round majority decision and lost his title on April 14, 2007, against Ruslan Chagaev. In a vacant WBA world heavyweight title bout, Nikolai Valuev defeated the same john Ruiz via a 12- round split decision to capture the title for the second time that he defended on December 20, 2008, via a 12-round majority decision over 5-time boxing world champion Evander Holyfield.
