Experts in the field of science and technology are currently planing a project that will create digital models of 500 of the most famous World Heritage Sites, including the iconic Mount Rushmore.
The team, composed of scientists and researchers from the Glasgow School of Art and Historic Scotland, are surveying the exact dimensions of several wonders of the world. By using of state-of-the-art laser scanning technique, they expect to create a database system that would store geometrical information on those world heritage sites.
The goal of the project is to store the information on the physical stature of the world heritage sites so that they can be maintained or even rebuilt should they be damaged by a natural or even man made disaster.
The research team will also be collaborate with CyArk Foundation, a non-profit organization that is an advocate of world heritage sites and has identified those sites which were at "risk."

Aside from Mount Rushmore, the team also intend to recreate digital versions of the famed Acropolis in Athens and the abysmal Great Wall of China.
