A large Tea Party rally is planned tomorrow in Washington D.C., which is expected to draw thousands of conservative and independent activists to the city.
So far, 30,000 individuals have
signed up for the event online, with many more expected according to officials with the movement. The Tea Party Express has been traveling across the country for the past few weeks, stopping in states and districts to hold rallies against big government. The event has been getting considerable attention from those on the right, with conservative talk show host Glenn Beck broadcasting from the event and urging people to show up for it.
According to a
memo obtained by the press, "It looks like Saturday's event is going to be a huge gathering, estimates ranging from hundreds of thousands to 2 million people," wrote Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's aide Doug Thornell.
The conservative organizers of the event were not pleased with the release of the memo."It's an old political tactic to get out in front and make wild projections and when they're not met, claim their opponents don't have the juice," said Pete Sepp, a spokesman for the National Taxpayers Union, one of the organizers of the rally. "You set the bar at 2 million and anything under it becomes a failure," Sepp continued. It should be important to note that not even President Obama had 2 million turn out for his inauguration ceremonies earlier this year.
