Tuesday afternoon a group of five African-American students allegedly attacked and injured a Muslim girl while on a school bus in Ann Arbor, Michigan Tuesday afternoon.
The girl, 16, had to have six stitches on her face after the attack.
It has been alleged that a group of teens attacked the girl while on the bus, both physically and verbally. They have been accused of saying that Arabs are dirty and other negative things. In addition the group pulled the girl's hijab off of her head and dragged her to a home close to a bus stop.
The incident has been confirmed by Ann Arbor Police Lt. Angela Abrams .
The girl's brother was also attacked by the group when he tried to save her.
Freep.com reports:
“We’re extremely troubled,” Dawud Walid, head of the Michigan chapter of Council on American-Islamic Relations said Wednesday. “We’re asking state and federal authorities to investigate these assaults as hate crimes due to the racial slurs used and that her hijab was pulled off during the assaults.”
This incident is being labeled a hate crime and the FBI was notified by Walid.
