The British Foreign Office is reporting that a British official has been murdered in the popular tourist resort of Montego Bay in Jamaica.
The official they say has been murdered is John Terry, 65, the honorary consul in the region.
A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office has said that they were in close contact with Jamaican police who are "investigating the cause of his death".
Mr Terry was reportedly found on Wednesday outside of his home on Mount Carey St James.
BBC News states that according to reports from inside Jamaica the police are saying there was an attempt to forcefully gain entry to John Terry's home.
John Terry was made an MBE in 1992 and had worked in the tourism industry for about 30 years. He was Britain's Honorary Consul in west Jamaica and his specialty was helping British tourists who were in trouble.
The spokeswoman for the Foreign Office also said, "We can confirm the death of the British honorary consul."
Our sympathy is with the family at this difficult time."
