A car bomb exploded Tuesday at Kabul's airport on the military side's front gate. There have been reports that civilians have been killed but no solid details.
A NATO-led ISAF alliance official reported that there was an explosion at the Kabul airbase.
"It was a suicide attack outside the main gate of the military base at the airport," Colonel Koziel Bart told AFP.
"All the gates of the base have been closed and all air operations have been suspended," he said.
The blast happened at 8:22 a.m. and could be felt as far as a mile away. An hour later smoke was still thick in the air.
According to a police official the car rammed into an international convoy of SUVs.
A reporter for the Associated Press said that he saw at least three people that were being taken to ambulances.
