The White House has issued a copy of a speech President Obama will give in an address to school children grades K-12 tomorrow.
The White House has issued a copy of a speech President Obama is set to give tomorrow to school children nationwide. This action was prompted by a call from politicians and parents across the country who were concerned about the tone of the speech. Lesson plans leaked to the media were the origin of the concern and were hailed by media pundits and some parents as tools for indoctrination. In response to the criticism and apprehension the White house has made a
copy of the speech available on the White House website.
The lesson plans accompanying the speech have been altered from their original format, which has sparked so much controversy. The original lesson plans were retooled by the website due to what is considered poor language. The suggested lesson plans are available on ed.gov for grades
prek-6 and
7-12.
The speech will be presented tomorrow at 12pm est, the same day the President will be addressing a joint session of Congress. The speech will be shown on CSPAN as well as via satellite for schools.
After the speech children will be encouraged to think of how they can apply what the President has said to their own lives. All children 13 and older will then
be invited to participate in a contest sponsored by the United States Department of Education called "I Am What I Learn." Students may upload a video to YouTube from September 8th to October 8th. The Video's are suggested to be around 2 minutes long and should cover how the child will use their education to fulfill their dreams.
