The PartyCasino.net World Cup of Pool ended dramatically Sunday, as pool legends Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco “Django” Bustamante of Philippine team B, bagged the coveted world championship and went home $60,000 richer.
Reyes and Bustamante, who get passed tough assignments against the teams from Qatar, Italy, England and an exciting sudden death match in the semifinals against team China, played beautiful music together in the finals against the German duo of Thorsten Hohmann and Ralf Soquet.
The boisterous Filipino crowd at the SM North EDSA in Quezon City, was uncontrollable and seemingly helped to the cause of the home town heroes.
The Filipinos kick-off scorching, leading by 5 racks to 2, but the Germans courtesy of their stellar pocketing moved ahead and were almost poised to be crowned world champions when they grabbed the lead 9-7 when Bustamante misfired on the 9-ball at the 16th rack.
However, the Filipinos draw inspiration from the crowd and won 4 straight hotly-contested racks to clinch the
title. 11-9.
