British scientists from the Imperial College London recently found evidence that links broccoli and other green leafy vegetables with lower risk against heart ailments.
The researchers discovered that a chemical in broccoli can boosts our body's natural defense against the clogging of arteries, which results to heart attack.
In their study, which was funded by the British Heart Foundation -- a charitable organization, the researchers experimented the result of higher sulforaphane (a compound that is found in broccoli) intake "energize" a protective protein which is inactive in parts of the arteries vulnerable to clogging.
"This study provides a possible explanation for how green vegetable consumption can promote a healthy heart." Paul Evans of the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College told the
