North Caucasus region of Ingushetia in Russia has experienced a bomb blast, which has killed three police officers and injured three others.
According to the New York Times, a roadside bomb explosion has taken place in Ingushetia, Russia, where three police officers were killed and three others were wounded. Police were conducting an operation to arrest suspects tied to a militant group, Provincial Interior Ministry spokeswoman Madina Khadziyeva stated.
The bomb exploded in the village of Dattykh, which is mostly a Muslim population that borders the Russia-Chechnya border.
Strife and tensions between residents and law enforcement and government officials have been on the rise in recent months.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and the Kremlin-backed leaders of Ingushetia and Chechnya have condemned the attacks and have grown concerned over the increased violence.
Prosecutor General’s Office released a statement (Russian) immediately after the bombing.
