Digital Journal's Jay David Murphy will be covering this year's 44th Annual Jerry Lewis Telethon "live" from the Southpoint Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
The decades long Annual Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon will be back on the nations television stations ‘Live’ starting at 9pm EST on Sunday and runs until late afternoon on Labor Day depending on your location. The MDA Telethon will be carried on 180 television stations on what is called the “Love Network” in the US and Canada.
This year will feature a lot old favorites, be missing some old friends, and debuting some new music.
The MDA Telethon will be headquartered again this year in Las Vegas at the Southpoint Hotel and Casino on Las Vegas Boulevard and Digital Journal will be there to provide on site coverage and photos of the 20-plus-hour event to raise money for the research, treatment, services, and education of Muscular Diseases.
Last year the show brought in a record-breaking $65 million in pledges and donations.
Traditionally the MDA Telethon has viewership that equals events like the Emmy’s, Oscar’s, and Golden Globe Award Shows in America with an audience estimated at 40million people, and will be viewed in countless countries from around the world online via video streaming provided by RealNetworks.
For the first time ever social media followers of the MDA Telethon from Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube websites will treated to behind-the-scenes views during the broadcast. Digital Journal will be there bringing its readership articles and photos from the event as they happen in a first ever attempt to cover the MDA Telethon bell-to-bell.
Of course this year an old friend of Jerry Lewis and the MDA Telethon will be missed but not forgot. Ed McMahon who was by Jerry’s side for decades, bringing the latest numbers with his golden voice and one-of-a-kind delivery that fans loved from the Johnny Carson show, passed on but left a tremendous legacy. There will memories and video montages of the man and the voice that millions around the world have enjoyed for decades.
Wynonna Judd will be one of the featured entertainers at this years 44th Annual MDA Telethon and will be singing her new single “When I Fall In Love.” She will be backed up by an 80-member orchestra for her time on stage. The Las Vegas Mass Choir will join her for the second song of her set “I Wanna Know What Love Is.” This will be the first appearance for Judd on the MDA Telethon.
From the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s website which is based in Tucson Arizona, Jerry Lewis has left these quotes for visitors to the site, “I’m determined to keep fighting for a cure for muscular dystrophy because my kids deserve to live long and healthy lives. The Telethon gives us the chance to help put an end to these debilitating diseases, while entertaining and educating the American public.”
This year’s co-hosts will include Jann Carl, an “America Idol” favorite and star of “Grease” on Broadway. Tom Bergeron of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” and “Dancing with the Stars” will also be featured.
Nancy O’Dell of “Access Hollywood” returns as a co-host and in her new role as MDA National ALS Ambassador. She joined MDA’s fight against ALS after her mother died of the disease in 2008.
