On the Ramadan holy month occasion - and with the Obama administration considering additional troops for Afghanistan - Osama bin Laden resurfaces with the promise of a 'present' for Muslims, delivered through a web site.
Osama bin Laden should likely open an events practice - as the spectacle that his announcements command has a certain public relations sheen that one might expect from a Madison Avenue firm. A web site that on occasion distributes the shadowy figures messages is teasing its audience with the promise of a "present" from Mr. bin Laden to mark the holy month of Ramadan.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Barack Obama and his defense secretary are considering additional troops for Afghanistan, as Pentagon officials are seeking a decisive turnaround in the troubled country. These American considerations are on top of UK concerns over the long-term prospects for turning Afghanistan around.
Additionally, Pakistan's dealings with the Taliban have proven to be the struggle the Pakistani government anticipated, with high-profile terrorist attacks making headlines.
Given this, has Osama bin Laden already offered his "present," or should the world expect more generosity from the al Qaeda chief?
Bin Laden's most recent message in June claimed that U.S. President Barack Obama had planted seeds of "revenge and hatred" among the Muslim world toward America and its interests. Bin Laden's June comments were timed to coincide with President Obama's outreach speech to Muslims around the world.
While the web site did not provide further details, it is widely assumed that a new bin Laden message will appear within the next 48 hours.
