Disney is going to buy Marvel Comics for a staggering $4 Billion. Marvel is the largest publisher of comice books and has made some of its own movies lately.
According to CNN, Disney Entertainment is set to purchase Marvel for a price of $4 billion. It'll be interesting to see what kind of changes that they will make to the superhero movies and whether they will keep Stan Lee, the founder of Marvel, as a consultant. Old Stan must be in his eighties now, nuff said.
There are two main players in the world of comic books and superheroes: Marvel and DC. DC is best known for its Superman, Batman, and Green Lantern superheroes, while Marvel is famous for the X-Men, Spiderman, and the Fantastic Four.
When I was growing up, I always preferred Marvel to DC. Batman was OK, especially the earlier comics where he was a dark and brooding figure, but I never like Superman. He was just to goody goody and all American for my tastes. Green Lantern was OK as well as some of the other DC comics like Green Hornet and those four guys that were made of metal.
My favorite Marvel comic was the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. Spiderman was OK, but again he was just a little too good. But actually my favorite Marvel character was a villain not a superhero. Dr. Doom was about the coolest comic book character that you could imagine. He had it all.
He was the ruler of his own country, had a really cool mask, and also was a genius to equal Steve Richards, or "Stretch" the leader of the Fantastic Four, his main enemies. Other Marvel favorites of mine included Iron Man and Dr. Strange. We are all familiar with Tony Stark, as Iron Man, but not as many know Dr. Strange, the magician with mysterious magical powers.
Comic book characters have made a comeback recently with all of the superhero movies breaking box office records. As far as the movies go, I think that the X-Men series are definitely the best, followed closely by the Batman series.
The X-Men movies certainly have the best and most perfectly cast stars while Batman has the best villains and the best drama and storyline.
