Carrie Prejean, the dethroned Miss California USA, is suing beauty pageant organizers for what she says was a wrongful dismissal. Prejean was fired two months after saying marriage should only be between a man and a woman during the beauty contest.
Organizers claim
Prejean was
dismissed from her duties because she failed to keep her scheduled appearances. She claims, however, she was canned because of her religious beliefs.
The lawsuit differs from what Prejean was preaching just two weeks ago, according to
USA Today. At that time, she was in Florida where she claimed losing the pageant and the "materialistic" crown were part of God's plan for her, reports
AP.
Charles LiMandri, Prejean's lawyer told Reuters:
"There was a strained relationship, and it became that way when she gave that answer and would not back off of it. That's what this is really all about," LiMandri stated.
Soon after the pageant, topless photos surfaced on the Internet. It was also revealed that the pageant paid for Prejean to have breast implant surgery.
The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. Prejean is seeking an undisclosed amount in damages.
Donald Trump, owner of the Miss USA pageant, was not named in the lawsuit.
