Last evening a cyclist and driver of a convertible got into a heated argument in Toronto's toney Yorkville neighbourhood. The argument ended with the cyclist being killed and Ontario's ex-Attorney General being charged.
Last night, a Toronto cyclist died after he grabbed onto the side of a convertible that kept driving before he fell off, hitting his head either on a mailbox, as reported by a witness at the scene, or on a fire hydrant, as reported by the police. It was
reported that the driver then fled the scene.
Manual Machado, who witnessed the horrific scene, told CTV news:
The guy hanging on to the car hit the mailbox, hit the road, and the… car ran over him with the back tires. The guy bounced, and the car sped off and the person that he ran over was there just bleeding,
Today, former Attorney General of Ontario and current head of
Invest Toronto was formally charged with criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.
The cyclist has been identified as a bike courier named Darcy Allan Sheppard.
It is being
reported that Bryant will be appearing in Old City Hall court in October.
Toronto Mayor David Miller, who recently appointed Bryant to the position of president and CEO of Invest Toronto, issued a
statement that included "his "sincere condolences to the family and friends of the cyclist who died [Monday] night following an incident in the Yorkville area." Miller also said that because it was an "active police investigation" there will be no further comment from his office.
