Members of the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) have the first chance to see King Tut: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs. Tickets for members go on sale on September 1 for the public opening on November 24, 2009.
On September 22 non-members can pre-register online for the showing.
Members of the AGO will also be given a small number of free or discounted tickets for the King Tut audio guide and 3-D movie. The tickets for these items will range from $14.50 to $20 for members. Children under the age of five will be allowed to view the exhibit for free.
The King Tut exhibit will feature twice the number of artifacts that were displayed in 1979 when Tutankhamun: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs came to Toronto.
Most of the new artifacts have never been shown in North America prior to this tour which is currently in Atlanta, Georgia.
The King Tut exhibit will run through April 18, 2010. The exhibition has been organized by National Geographic Society, Arts and Exhibitions International and AEG Exhibitions with cooperation from the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities.
The AGO reports:
Even with the great wealth of research that already exists, new technologies continue to reveal the secrets of the past in ways never imagined,” says Terry Garcia, executive vice president of the National Geographic Society. “In this exhibition, visitors will learn more about the life and death of Tutankhamun through recent CT scans conducted on his mummy.”
This will be a most see exhibit at AGO. If you're able to attend it will be well worth your time. The artifacts that are to be on display help to bring to life an amazing historical period.
Zahi Hawass, secretary general of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, states the antiquities that will be on display are a heritage of the world.
