60,000 hits of ecstasy from Canada were captured in a high seas arrest by the US Coast Guard. A 21-year-old man from Neah Bay is in custody in Clallam Bay in connection to the bust.
The US Coast Guard confiscated 60,000 Ecstasy tablets in a bust off the coast of Neah Bay on Thursday.
In report from the Peninsula Daily News from Port Angeles Washington, they are saying that an 18–foot boat was being piloted by a 21-year-old young man from the Neah Bay Indian Reservation. They said he was transporting $720,000 worth of ecstasy from Vancouver Island.
The illegal drugs were in a duffel bag aboard the boat the Coast Guard reported.
In the same story, Coast Guard Spokesman Petty Officer Eric Chandler said, “This is a pretty significant bust for the Coast Guard, not only in Neah Bay, but for the Coast Guard in general.”
Chief Sam White of the Neah Bay Police Department has said that the investigation of this drug trafficking operation has been going on for the last two years.
Neither Chandler or White is releasing the name of the 21-year-old male who is now in custody at the Clallam County jail. In the report, White did say that the young man was involved in a Canadian drug ring, and that he had given the Coast Guard a tip on the person just two months ago.
White is quoted in the article as saying, “We’re not done on our end. There’s more involved than just that. This is still ongoing.”
Digital Journal contacted the Neah Bay Police department and spoke with Detective Thompson who declined to comment stating, “All information released goes through Chief White.” Chief White was unavailable at the time of the call.
He also recommend that we contact the “Coast Guard” for further information and the name of the arrested.
After repeatedly trying to get through the automated phone system, Digital Journal was not able to make contact with anyone from the Coast Guard.
