article imageHuckabee: Kennedy would have been urged to die under 'Obamacare'

By Andrew Moran     Aug 28, 2009 in Politics
Former Governor of Arkansas and 2008 Republican Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee told listeners on his radio show that Edward Kennedy would have been told under 'Obamacare' to "go home to take pain pills and die."
Conservatives everywhere are trying to bring down the Democrats, this includes the former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, over health care reform. Many Democrats are trying to gain some momentum for their health care initiative after the sad death of Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy.
On his radio show on Friday, according to The Huffington Post, Mike Huckabee, the winner of the 2008 Iowa Republican Caucuses, suggested that Sen. Kennedy would have been urged to "go home to take pain pills and die" if the United States had 'Obamacare'. He went on further to describe what he meant by that, "It was President Obama himself who suggested that seniors who don't have as long to live might want to just consider taking a pain pill instead of getting an expensive operation to cure them."
Mike Huckabee is tied in the polls with former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin among 2012 Republican Presidential nominations but has not raised as much campaign finance as Romney or Palin.
"Yet when Sen. Kennedy was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer at 77, did he give up on life and go home to take pain pills and die? Of course not. He freely did what most of us would do. He choose an expensive operation and painful follow up treatments. He saw his work as vitally important and so he fought for every minute he could stay on this earth doing it. He would be a very fortunate man if his heroic last few months were what future generations remember him most for."
Prior to Huckabee's comments, Democrats urged Congress to "pass the health care reform bill and do it in his memory."
Huckabee concluded, "That not only defies good taste. It defies logic."
