While most people differ over Democrat and Republican, or Conservative and Liberal, Ronald Reagan (R) and Edward Kennedy (D) were good friends, according to the former First Lady Nancy Reagan.
"Most people didn't realize the friendship, or didn't accept it, or didn't know about the friendship. You know, Ronny was so identified with the Republican Party. And Teddy obviously with the Democrat Party. But that doesn't make any difference, Larry, really. It shouldn't make any difference. I'm afraid it does now, but it shouldn't," Nancy Reagan told CNN's Larry King on Monday.
She also released the fact that the two men helped each other on various occasions, whether it was privately or publicly. In 1985, President Ronald Reagan delivered a speech at a fund-raising event at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library after Edward Kennedy asked him to. Both men admired one another over their commitments to their beliefs.
"Teddy had asked Ronny to speak…he did, very happily. They both had very definite opinions about things. It was a wonderful, wonderful friendship."
