A bill to restrict sales of violent video games is being moved in Venezuela's legislative chamber in an effort to reduce rampant crime in the country.
According to a statement released by the legislative branch, the bill that outlaws the sale of violent video games and toys successfully passed the initial deliberation at a national assembly, Wednesday.
To be converted into a law, the bill must passed a another hurdle -- a second vote in the national assembly and the approval of President Hugo Chavez.
"Dozens of people are murdered every week in the capital Caracas, one of Latin America's most dangerous cities, sometimes for as little as a pair of shoes or a mobile phone"
Reuters.com reports.
Despite few studies which evidenced that such violent games causes aggressive behavior, they have often been the subject of controversy as some countries had already ban violent video games.
