Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy has died of a brain cancer at the age of 77, which he had been struggling with for a long time.
The long-term Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy has died on Wednesday at midnight of brain cancer at the age of 77. He passed away at his home in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts.
"We've lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever. He loved this country and devoted his life to serving it," the Kennedy family released shortly after his death.
He has lived a long career and recently received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in August.
At the Democratic National Convention in Denver in 2008 he told his supporters, "I pledge to you that I will be there next January on the floor of the United States Senate when we begin the great test."
