Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg is quoted as saying Facebook may expand its staff by 40 percent to 50 percent this year. It has a staff of 1,000 people.
Overall, times have been tough in the tech industry but Facebook appears to be the exception.
Bloomberg reports the company is reaping the benefits of an economy that sees a surplus of engineers on the market.
Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said. “No one else has been hiring. It’s been a great environment for us because the economy has helped out.”
Facebook currently employees 1,000 people; however, the company has plans to increase staff gradually in order to control costs. Zuckerberg wants to see Facebook reach a positive cash flow in 2010.
Last May the company moved into an unpretentious building commonly referred to as the bunker.
“The thing I want to remind people of is we’re way closer to the beginning than the end,” Zuckerberg said.
“A lot of times buildings can be a signal that you’ve made it. I would rather that our building feel much more like a very large garage.”
