A live pipe bomb was turned over to the Pierce College campus police today by a man who claimed that he found the device next to the campus pond.
The police station was immediately evacuated so that a bomb squad could detonate the six inch, ½ inch diameter bomb.
Officer Pedro Pineda, of the Sheriff’s Pierce College station said that the man had been on campus with his son and “grabbed [the bomb] without knowing what he had in his hands." He added, “It could have easily been triggered by anything."
Luckily, the college was closed for the holiday and the detonation occurred without incident.
At this time, the police do not think that the bomb is connected to a threat against any specific person.
A full investigation is now underway.
