A woman went to an automotive repair shop in Winona Minnesota last Friday morning, needing a belt replaced on her car. While getting the car logged in to the company's system, the woman casually remarked that she had a goat in her car trunk.
Apparently the woman, who was accompanied by a man and a child, were heading for St. Paul when they experienced a car breakdown in Winona. The breakdown required a repair. While logging the vehicle in for the repairs, the woman casually mentioned to serviceman, James Prusci, that there was a goat in the trunk. Prusci shrugged off the information, concentrating on getting started on trouble shooting the car problem. The woman and her companions left the premises.
Prusci started his work on the car and said that about 10 minutes later, he heard the goat. He opened the trunk so it could have air and the goat popped it's head out. The horned animal was bound by its feet, lying on its side in the trunk. Prusci told the Winona Daily News that he had closed the trunk again, afraid the goat would be able to get out and hurt itself in the garage, but when he checked on it about an hour later, it wasn't as active as it had been earlier.
That's when the repairman called animal control, who came with police backup and rescued the goat. The goat had been painted purple and gold, with the number 4 shaved onto its side, apparently to celebrate the debut of football star, Brett Favre with his new team, the Minnesota Vikings. The woman told James Prusci, the repairman at Tires Plus, that she was going to butcher the goat. Animal control took the goat for a medical checkup, naming the goat "Brett." The goat has reportedly been happily placed with a foster family. There have been no charges laid thus far in the case. While the old adage says curiosity killed the cat, curiosity certainly was a a life saver for this furry friend.
Coincidentally, there has been a rash of goat thefts lately in the Lowell, Wisconsin area, with over over 100 goats now missing. Lowell is about 140 miles east of Winona.
Brett Favre has apparently come out of retirement - again. He signed with the Vikings on August 18th, giving Favre a $12 million deal this year.
