Charlie Cook, the founder and editor of the Cook Political Report, sent out an update to his regular subscribers that should alarm Democrats across the country.
He wrote that the current situation for Democrats this summer has "slipped completely out of control." Cook is projecting that the Republicans will pick up roughly 20 seats in the House of Representatives and could even see Democrats losing more seats than that.
This is just the latest in bad news for congressional leaders, but especially Democrats. A new Rasmussen survey shows that in a generic ballot, the Republican candidate beats the Democratic one by 5 points. Also, a string of high profile candidates have emerged for Republicans in Senate races across the country keeping seats in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, New Hampshire, Missouri, Illinois, and Connecticut in play, while California, Delaware, Colorado, and Nevada may be joining the ranks soon enough.
Most analysts point to the growing public dissatisfaction towards members of Congress and President Obama over various policies. This has the driving factor in poll numbers taking a dive for Democrats across the board. Democrats, as the majority party in Washington, are taking the brunt of the blame due to their lead on crafting and implementing new laws and policies. With over 14 months before the 2010 midterm elections, there remains plenty of times for things to change for both political parties, but as of now the public is not happy with where the country seems to be headed.
